Inflatable Repairs Replace, Repair or Add Blower Intake Vents

Blower intake vents are those 8’ round extensions coming from your inflatable that hook to the blower motor. These blower vents also take a beating because unfortunately they are used as pull extensions when maneuvering the inflatable from one location to another spot while at a rental. The constant pulling of these vents with the weight of the inflatable bearing down on the stitching of the vent where it is connected to the inflatable eventually fails and must be re-stitched.

The vents also incur damage to the underside due to scrapping along a concrete slab because they are not stretched out completely from blower motor to the inflatable. This also is a result of movement of the inflatable while being used by jumping participants. The inflatable moves from the weight of the jumping participants, but the motor does not since it is separate from the bounce house. This causes crimping of the blower vent that reaches the concrete slab and begins to scrape against it in a back and forth motion. That particular spot if not attended to will scrape away at the material and create holes and weaknesses in that area.

The good news is that this is a relatively easy repair – if you know what you’re doing, of course. You need only replace the blower neck or vent by opening the jumping pad from the bottom and unstitching and removing the damaged blower vent from the jumping pad. Then replace it with a new color coordinated vent.

Sounds like an easy proposition, right? Not quite! For an experienced sewing technician it is a rather easy replacement. However, remember, you are sewing a round piece of vinyl unto a flat piece on the side of the jumping pad. Complicating matters is the fact you are trying to sew in a round circled 8” piece of vinyl under the sewing machine arm.

Trust me, if you have not done this before, you’ll find yourself handling much more than you can chew. This is without doubt the number one area of damage which rental business owners attempt to repair themselves. Ironically, it requires tremendous experience … not that it is a difficult repair.
